Living with ME/CFS is… Taking the flu for 3 to 6 weeks as normal.
Since I have ME/CFS, the flu is so much more severe than before. In the past, a flu was a matter of 1 to 1.5 weeks and then I was back in business. But now my life is completely disrupted for 3 to 8 weeks.
Flu manifests itself totally differently than usual when it comes on top of ME/CFS. At first I am feeling listless for 1 to 2 weeks and I can do only very little. Then I am really sick for 1 to 2 weeks and I can't do anything at all. And at the end I am feelinglistless again for 1 to 2 weeks and I can do very little.
By "very little" I mean very little for me, so compared to what I normally can do. My normal is many times less than for a healthy person to start with. So “very little” means I'm doing very little or nothing at the time!
In short, the flu is a long-lasting and very drastic attack on my daily functioning, which completely turns my life upside down for 3 to 6 weeks. And when I have recovered, always a large mountain of overdue tasks is waiting for me. So I'm often busy for another 2 weeks, before I'm sort of back in balance...
